Black currants have been consumed for centuries medicinally and as a wine, syrup and flavoring from China and Europe to North America, where they’re grown naturally and used by Native Americans. The berry became popular with American colonists in the early 1600’s and have grown in popularity ever since, especially in Great Britain during WWII for their high content of vitamin C.
