Reduce inflammation and leave your skin dewy fresh with this edible Avocado Mask That Doubles as Dessert!
You don’t need an expensive trip to the spa to experience a mask worthy of one! This 3-ingredient mask helps to stave off acne, boost skin luminosity, and even promote collagen production. Best of all, it’s totally edible and can be added to your favorite desserts as a double dose of anti-inflammatory benefits.
The main ingredient in this facial treatment is creamy ripe avocado. Avocado is filled with antioxidant-rich lipids that can help heal skin from damage caused by the sun, smoking, and pollution. Honey is an antimicrobial used for healing wounds, sunburns, and psoriasis. Along with its ability to naturally sweeten foods, it’s also used as an anti-inflammatory to help fight off acne-causing bacteria. (2, 3) Tip: Always choose pure, high-quality, raw honey for the highest levels of antioxidants, amino acids, and enzymes.
Lemon juice is a natural exfoliant belonging to a group of chemical compounds used in many cosmetics known as alpha hydroxy acids (AHA). These AHAs are beneficial at removing dead skin cells and help to reverse signs of sun damage. (4, 5) Note: Do not use lemon juice on skin that is cut or inflamed, as this can cause further irritation.
Get started by mashing the avocado in a small bowl – the less lumpy, the better. Stir in honey and lemon juice until it is well combined. When ready to use, apply 1-2 tablespoons onto your face and forehead, making sure to avoid contact with eyes. Leave the mask on for 20 minutes and rinse clean with warm water. Tip: For best results, this mask is extra soothing when refrigerated for one hour prior to applying.
Once mixed together, this mask takes on a sweet flavor that can be combined with 1-2 tablespoons of cacao powder to make an indulgent dessert mousse or fruit dip. You can also blend the mixture into a batch of avocado brownies or add to a smoothie for a creamy fruity texture.
